At a Wilderness Safaris road show recently we discussed what makes a great safari, the consensus was that it should be authentic. It was interesting to hear the various interpretations of the word, depending on the point of view and personal preferences which ranged from rustic to unpretentious but Wilderness Safaris offered us their explanation of what they believe makes a safari authentic. This shapes their ethos as a company and is one the reasons they are the safari market leader in Botswana.
Guiding: The essence of a safari is that it is guided. Anyone can drive around the bush and see animals but it is your guide who is learned in the art of the bush who can bring the experience to life.
Interpretive. Your guide will interpret what you see to reveal the magic. They will tell the stories that lie behind the wildlife sightings. Did you know that lioness had three cubs last year and only one survived?
Wild: Wether your taste runs to luxury or to the more rustic, the camps or lodges you visit should be in the best wilderness areas available: Botswana has this in heaps.
